Job Description
Job Title: Respiratory Therapist
Job Specialty: Respiratory Care
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour night shift (1830-0700)
Guaranteed Hours: 40.00 per week
Experience: 1 year of respiratory therapy experience preferred
License: Current state licensure (RLT) in applicable state of employment
Certifications:
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by NBRC
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Must-Have:
- Prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) preferred
Job Description:
- Perform respiratory procedures under physician direction in all patient areas.
- Responsible for patient assessments, care plans, plan implementation, evaluation, and revision of therapy plan as needed.
- Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.
- Utilize knowledge of patients’ age and cultural diversity in the provision of patient care.
- Support the organization's vision and mission and practice performance improvement techniques to assure delivery of the most effective patient care.
- Deliver respiratory care procedures to patients in general, acute, critical care, and emergency areas according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform therapeutic modalities including patient monitoring, medication delivery, ventilation management, expansion therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
- Perform diagnostic testing including ABG's, PFT's, EKG's, bronchoscopy, and pulse oximetry.
- Assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency care, providing airway maintenance and management, cardiac support, and other assistance as needed.
- Respond to patient needs in a timely, effective manner and provide patient and family education and teaching.
- Transport patients within the hospital or between facilities.
- Provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department policy.
- Develop care plans from thorough assessment via protocol criteria or directed physician order.
- Document all patient care activities including evaluations, progress notes, and detailed treatment records per standards of practice, legal requirements, and regulatory requirements.
- Document ongoing status, interventions, patient response, and outcomes to correctly capture billing charges.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other customers concerning respiratory therapy services by direct verbal and/or written communication, respecting confidentiality at all times.
- Demonstrate effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements.
- Adapt to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census, and staffing needs through priority setting and flexibility.
- Participate in personal, professional, and program development by attending department in-services and meetings.
- Assist in training respiratory therapy staff, students, and other hospital personnel.
- Act as a resource for new staff members and co-workers by sharing information and providing education.
