Job Description
- Provides technical support for various enterprise systems supporting the County’s Offices and Departments. Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of a variety of compute and storage resources, enterprise software, monitoring tools and related components. Technical support is provided for a wide range of hardware, software operating systems, applications, appliances, and services.
- Provides incident support consisting of advanced troubleshooting of end-user and system issues, administrative tasks, and configuration changes.
- Assists with the installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrade, troubleshooting of enterprise system hardware and peripherals, including servers, network printers, and network addressable storage devices and solutions.
- Assists with Windows Active Directory configuration and administration.
- Assists with scheduled and emergency patching utilizing appropriate tools (SCCM, Ansible).
- Utilizes remote management tools to monitor server and system events to provide proactive support and remediation of issues.
- Works closely with Digital, Strategy, and Technology teams, assisting with diagnoses and resolution of issues.
- Uses Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) software to manage incoming work requests, incidents, tasks, changes, and problems, completing assignments in a thorough and timely manner.
- In support of technology processes, troubleshooting processes, and enterprise equipment, assists with the drafting and updating of configuration documentation, knowledge articles, and procedure documents.
- Assists with the administration, installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, monitoring, demand and capacity planning, license management and compliance, and system level or batch level scripting as needed in one of these specialized areas: hardware/software virtualization, enterprise backup and restoration, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager/System Patching, or Microsoft 365 Administration.
- Serves as data operations center technical subject matter expert for system implementations, system designs, installations, refreshes, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, monitoring, demand and capacity planning, license management, and compliance in one of these specialized areas: hardware/software virtualization, enterprise backup and restoration, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager/System Patching, or Microsoft 365 Administration.
- Manages and assists vendors and contractors engaged in providing support for one of these specialized areas: hardware/software virtualization, enterprise backup and restoration, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager/System Patching, or Microsoft 365 Administration.
- Provide training and assist other Digital, Strategy, and Technology staff as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent education required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field preferred.
- Experience with physical and virtual Windows and/or RedHat Linux server administration.
- Experience with ticket-based Service Desk / ITSM software. ServiceNow experience preferred.
- Must possess strong analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to articulate user needs in technical and non-technical terms.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, County staff, and contractors.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above.
- Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.
To qualify for a Systems Engineer III:
- Minimum seven (7) years of direct, hands-on experience with installing, supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining enterprise systems in a large, multi-user, multi-application environment.
- Minimum five (5) years of direct, hands-on experience in either hardware/software Virtualization, enterprise backup and restoration, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manger/system patching, or Microsoft 365 Exchange Administration.
- Understanding of ITIL practices, including Incident, Configuration, Change, and Problem Management.
- Must be able to serve as, and have experience as, a high-level technical resource to Digital, Strategy, and Technology staff.
