Description / Position Overview

Pikes Peak Assistant Ranger Supervisor (Park Ranger II)

In this position, you will assist in the oversight of daily ranger operations on Pikes Peak Highway and assist seasonally with daily operations of the Gateway (tollgate).  This position directly reports to the PPAM Senior Park Ranger position.

You will be required to respond to emergency after hours callouts.

This position, which is located in Cascade, CO requires the ability to work at an altitude of 14,115 feet.

You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the workplace. There is no shuttle bus transportation for employees up to the mountain.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:

  • Hire, develop, schedule, train, assign and inspect work, and supervise 15-20 lower-level seasonal ranger staff operations for Pikes Peak Highway
  • Assist in overseeing the maintenance of Pikes Peak Highway ranger vehicles and facilities, including snow removal around buildings.
  • Research and order necessary ranger facilities and custodial maintenance materials and supplies for Pikes Peak Highway operations 
  • Provide collaborative customer service focus to ensure optimal guest visitation experience
  • Assist in Pikes Peak Highway ranger budget development and monitoring
  • Foster and implement a culture of safety, environmental protection, and sustainability by working in a safe manner, immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents and by participating in appropriate safety training.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly reports on visitation, ranger interactions, interpretation programs, and revenue collection
  • Coordinate and/or respond to incidents, accidents, and medical emergencies along the Pikes Peak Highway Recreation Corridor
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of master, management, and interpretive plans
  • Provide monthly inventory reports and requisition of operational supplies.
  • Actively engage the public with education regarding natural resources and historical and recreational values
  • Perform site coordination with inter-governmental agencies, department and special event staff, volunteer groups, contractors, and the public
  • Assist in the creation of informative and interpretive materials, including signs, brochures and educational outreach materials
  • Support the division's social media content development and review

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Three years of full-time park ranger experience
  • Possess, and maintain, a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, and maintain a first aid certification
  • Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience which demonstrates a high level of cash handling and reconciliation
  • Experience using Aluvii Point of Sale software
  • Ranger or recreation program or special event experience
  • Experience in snow removal operations
  • Leave No Trace Level 1 or 2 Instructor
  • Certificate of Interpretive Guiding
  • Ranger Excellence School or similar experience

  • Leave No Trace Principles

  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
