Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide transport for animals needing medical assistance after hours. This position is also responsible for cleaning and sanitizing meeting rooms, restrooms, public areas, and non-animal areas of HSPPR Pueblo campus facilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

On-Call Duties:

  • Provides animal transport services to and from emergency veterinarian clinics and the shelter to include emergency clinics in Pueblo and Colorado Springs.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally in person and over the telephone.
  • Responds to calls for service from ALE officers and emergency vet clinics regarding the health and welfare of animals after working hours.
  • Performs direct animal handling in a humane manner such as loading, unloading, and kenneling.
  • Operates HSPPR vehicles in a safe and prudent manner to respond to calls for service.
  • Properly cleans and disinfects HSPPR vehicles.
  • Utilizes shelter database to update animal and transport records.

Custodial Duties:

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks based on a schedule created by the operations team. Routine cleaning tasks include: laundry, dishes, cage wash and other tasks as assigned.
  • Use, maintain, and inventory cleaning and maintenance equipment and supplies.
  • Use cleaning supplies and chemicals following health and safety regulations to keep the buildings' interior clean and professional in appearance.
  • Perform general cleanup of all non-animal building areas as required using established practices and procedures and manages routine upkeep of building areas.
  • Cleans and maintains breakroom, front lobby, meeting rooms, and restroom areas.
  • Clean carpeted areas according to schedule and spot-clean carpets as necessary.

  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  • Performs administrative and data entry duties as assigned.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of HSPPR.
  • Appropriately documents observed animal behaviors utilizing objective language as required in relevant procedures and/or policies.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly sits at computer station.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently.
  • May be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and is frequently required to stand and walk. May be expected to be on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Must be able to use both hands and arms to grip, pull, and push utilizing equipment and safety equipment used to repair, maintain, and clean facilities.
  • Regularly exposed to noise and potential exposure to hazardous weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to cleaning supplies and/or other substances containing toxic or caustic chemicals.

Schedule Requirements

Overnight shifts. The schedule may include weekends and holiday work.

Education/Experience Necessary

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and insurable driving record.
  • At least 18 years of age.
