Job Description
Job Title: Surgical Technologist

Job Specialty: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) and Transplant

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Days, 0630-1700, 5x8 Hour Shifts

Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Experience: Previous Operating Room (OR) and CVOR experience required

License: Registration with the relevant regulatory agencies as a surgical technologist required, if applicable.

Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery (CST) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Must-Have:
- Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours
- Basic computer skills
- Effective time management and adaptability

Job Description:
- Work under the supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse.
- Assist the surgical team during procedures by arranging and inventorying the sterile set-up of instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist in preparing and moving patients, as well as sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms.
- Scrub on all cases, primarily on the heart team.
- Use physician preference cards to identify necessary supplies and equipment.
- Set up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications or solutions.
- Prepare solutions and medications, label them properly, and report usage for charting.
- Provide supplies or equipment upon request and assist with draping and covering of operating and instrument tables.
- Perform counts with the circulator before and after procedures.
- Deliver surgical specimens or cultures from the operative field to the circulating nurse.
- Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures.
- Review and replace supplies and discard expired medications following the protocol.
- Assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room and preparation for the next patient.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons and nursing staff, anticipating potential problems.
- Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research activities.
- Assist with the education of new staff and students.
- Demonstrate effective time management and adaptability to changing technologies, policies, and workflows.

Note: Floating may be required to locations within sixty miles of the original assignment location.
